Today, I was fortunate enough to attend a health care panel at the Capitol. The discussion I heard reinforced what I wrote yesterday, in which I described that Connecticut takes more of a risk by not trying to improve the health care system than by attempting a revolutionary plan . The plan that I believe is revolutionary and must be implemented is SusiNet. Connecticut needs SusiNet to be "Obama ready".
"Obama ready"? That's how Speaker Donovan describes the state-of-mind Connecticut should be in. The Obama administration is looking to give money to states with bold ideas and new plans. SusiNet is that and since Obama has stated that health care in a priority, all the evidence points to money coming to states prepared to deal with health care. Therefore, Connecticut better be "Obama ready" and one way to ensure that is to have SusiNet in Connecticut.
It was also reassuring to hear Congressman Murphy say that the atmosphere in Washington is uplifting when it comes to health care. There is a bipartisan effort to solve the crisis and an aggressive schedule to solve health care in the United States. Congressman Murphy complemented Connecticut for always being leaders in the health care field and hopes we can be that once again now that the country has a leader that wants to take on health care.
SusiNet is the right plan at the right time. Two years ago would have been to early and two years from now might be too late. We have to act when that window is open... and I feel a breeze.
