SustiNet Being Voted on Today -- You Can Still Take Action

Here's an important message from Paul Wessel, Exec. Dir., Healthcare4ever1.org:

We just found out that SustiNet, HB 6600, will likely be voted on late today, Tuesday, May 19.

Over the last week, we've worked with House leadership to refine a SustiNet bill that sets Connecticut on the road to quality, affordable health care for everyone while navigating the challenges of the 2009 Connecticut legislative session.

Please email your State Representative one last time!

The basic provisions of the amended bill are

* No new state money needed in the next two-year budget
* Establishes a Board with the right expertise to implement SustiNet
* Within 60 days of any federal health care reform, the SustiNet Board makes recommendations to the legislature regarding state action
* The Board reports a full action-ready bill to the legislature in January 2011
* SustiNet opens to voluntary enrollment in 2012
* Projects annual savings of $1.75 billion for individuals and businesses by 2014 with an average savings of $875 per person

We'll be at the Capitol tonight (join us if you'd like), and we'll keep you informed as the bill progresses on to the Senate. There are just 15 days left until the June 3 end of the 2009 legislative session.

Thank you for the work you've done to get SustiNet to the House floor. Take a breath (after sending your email) because our work has just begun.

Sincerely,

Paul Wessel
